Myths about Eyelash Extensions?
The artificial eyelash industry is booming. Thanks to coverage by huge beauty brands such as Vogue and Elle, and thousands of influencers picking up on the beauty treatment, there's more people than ever before trying out eyelash extensions. While this is great news for us at Noble Lashes and the stylists that we support, it also comes with a couple of problems, one of which is a plethora of myths and urban legends surrounding the treatment. Today, we debunk!
“I Heard That It Damages Your Eyelashes”
Damage to lashes CAN happen, but it is not a result of the lashes. This is a result of a subpar stylist. Stylists that do not know what they are doing or who have not been trained properly can easily damage a client's natural lashes. Stylists using too much glue or too heavy extensions for your lashes can do this, and unfortunately, it’s easy for them to blame the products—after all, a bad carpenter blames his tools. When you are booking with a salon, always ensure that they are reputable. Do your research, check their reviews, and see if you can see their references or training certificates, this will reduce the risks of you visiting a substandard stylist.
“I Heard That the Procedure is Painful”
Well, this isn’t waxing, laser removal or threading! The only tweezers used are ones to apply the lashes and not to pluck them out!
It is true during the preparation stage of the process the lower lashes are covered with a pad and taped to the face, BUT at most this can provide a slight discomfort. Your stylist will not be wrapping tape around your head like a mummy— they’ll only use the necessary amount. This is also why it’s important to find a well-established salon with a good reputation, as the trained and proper technician will check with you on your discomfort levels and correct accordingly.
Since you are lying on your back with your eyes closed for upwards of an hour and a half at a time, you may even find you fall asleep!
“You Can’t Wash Your Face With Those On!”
False. With, there is some nuance here—you will need to find some lash-friendly products.
We encourage you to wash your face and lashes, so here at Noble Lashes we even sell specialised Eyelash Shampoo and Conditioner. We wouldn’t put our name on these if eyelash extensions were not washable! We encourage clients to wash their extensions as this will keep them looking fresh and healthy, but you will need to find a facial based cleanser that is extension friendly. We also wouldn’t use any oil-based cleansers or makeup removers either. There are plenty of other suitable options out there.
Point two with this is that you must be gentle, gentle, gentle! You don’t want to be rubbing your eyes hard and scrubbing soap over them as this will end up pulling some of your extensions out.
“You Don’t Need To Go Back, You Can Just Pick Them Off!”
Please do not pick your extensions off, as this can cause horrible damage to your natural lashes.
The extensions are glued to your natural lashes with specially formulated glue to hold them in place for weeks on end. The glue is strong but can be broken down if you use harsh cleansing methods. Therefore we recommend that you are gentle whilst washing. If you pull them out, often you will end up pulling out your natural grown lash that was not ready to shed and you can end up with patchy or damaged lashes. Do not do this.
“I Heard That You Need Mascara Anyway, So What’s The Point?”
To this myth we say that the opposite is true! Choose a style of eyelash extension that you love, and you can step away from the mascara for good. You absolutely do not need mascara when you have eyelash extensions, and we even would advise not using it as the removal at the end of the day can be too vigorous on your beautiful lashes.
Noble Lashes eyelash extensions are specifically manufactured to provide the lift, length and thickness that comes from mascara, and more. One of the reasons many people even get this treatment is so that they can skip the mascara steps from their routines, so it is not needed.
“They’re Too Thick For Me And They All Look The Same”
Artificial eyelashes come in as many varieties as you can think of! They are as diverse as the people that wear them, so we know that whatever it is you’re looking for you’ll be able to find them. They come in different materials and are diverse in length and thickness. Longer and thicker lashes give a more dramatic and darker look, while shorter finer lashes often compliment a natural look and bring a more daytime ready-to-wear vibe.
If you throw in curl intensity and colours, there is such a huge variety to choose from. This means that whatever your style, there is a lash for you.
“In That Case, Maybe I’ll Think About It”
You should!
Like a giant game of whispers, a handful of untrue statements about eyelash extensions take away from a treatment that is endlessly rewarding. These sceptical claims give the beauty industry a bad name, so here we are to re-educate! Hopefully, we can help by debunking some of these myths and finding you the lashes of your dreams.
