Y lashes are customized lashes that consist of two separate eyelash extensions. The two eyelashes are glued together at their base to form a single unit, and they are then guided in opposite directions to increase lift and volume. The manner that the lashes are assembled are their namesake, as when glued together they can look like the letter “Y”.

Y lashes are the go to lashes to use in the 2D or 2:1 method, which are introductions to the Russian volume methods of eyelash application. During these techniques, stylists will apply eyelash extensions that have been pre glued together, forming two, three or four separate lashes on one singular strand.

These methods require the lashes to be thinner than the standard single eyelash extension, so that it is possible to apply multiple lash strands to each lash. Oftentimes the 2D method will mean that less glue is applied to the client and the lashes will often feel lighter on the lid.
