The Kim K Effect – How to Create This Iconic Lash Look Step by Step

20 - 01 - 2026

Kim K lashes are one of the most trending effects in beauty salons. Learn how to correctly create a lash map and achieve this spectacular glamour look.

What is the Kim K Effect?

Inspired by the celebrity look of Kim Kardashian, who started the trend for lashes that are known for:

  • A bold lash line combined with soft, fluttery tips
  • Signature “spikes” – lash clusters that are noticeably longer than the rest

Lash Styling

Who Suits the Kim K Lash Style?

Although the look might seem extravagant at first glance, on closer inspection, it turns out to be surprisingly versatile.

  • Deep-set eyes – the soft lash tips help brighten the gaze and visually lift the eyes
  • Prominent eyes – the right lash length adds subtlety to the overall look
  • Small eyes – lifted lashes in varying lengths visually open and enlarge the eye
This styling works well for nearly every client. The key to success lies in accurate lash mapping and following a few essential rules.

How to Create the Kim Effect Step by Step

Before you begin the application, remember these basic principles:

  • 2mm difference – the elongated spikes should be 2mm longer than the base lashes.
  • The 30% Rule – to avoid overloading the natural lashes, the extension should exceed the natural lash by no more than 30%.
  • Mapping – divide the eye into even sections where the spikes will be placed, and ensure smooth transitions between lengths.

Kim Lash Map

Step 1. Lash Mapping

To keep the eyes symmetrical, create lash maps before starting the application.

  • Mark the inner and outer corners of the eye
  • Divide the lash line in half
  • Divide each half into equal parts

Step 2. Choosing Base Lengths

  • Start by selecting base lash lengths (e.g., your client’s lashes may start at 8 mm, then go up through 9, 10, 11 to 12 mm). These will create the foundation.

Step 3. Creating the Spikes

  • Create the spikes using the +2mm rule. If your base lashes are 8 mm, use 10 mm for the spike in that section.
  • Remember to place the longest lashes on the bottom layer of the natural lashes.
