Eyelash primer for extensions
As more and more women want an enticing appearance that catches the eye of everyone passing them, the popularity of cosmetic treatments rises. However, makeup and mascara can only do so much - applying cosmetics will not change the natural length, volume and curl of the eyelashes. All of those aspects can be changed, however, with eyelash extensions. Extensions are currently one of the most popular cosmetic treatments around the world, as they are inexpensive and effectively improve the looks of clients. The effects of extensions can last up to 6 weeks when applied properly - for that, you will need professional cosmetic supplies, including a good quality primer.
What is an eyelash primer?
Primers - along with removers and cleaners - are one of the basic necessities that should be present in every cosmetic salon that wants to provide eyelash extension treatments to their clients. Whether you are a professional stylist with years of experience or a beginner stylist, you will need an eyelash primer to improve the longevity and quality of your extension treatments. The main objective of the primer is to increase the grip of the natural eyelashes, making them react better with eyelash adhesive. The primer needs to be applied after the eyelashes have been thoroughly cleaned with an eyelash cleanser. When using the primer properly, eyelash adhesive can hold for up to 10 weeks!
What are primers made from?
Similarly to all products that directly touch the skin around the eyes and the eyelashes, primers need to be carefully manufactured to avoid any damage. The skin around the eyes is very thin and easily absorbs substances that are on it, which further increases the importance of good quality ingredients of the primer. Primarily, eyelash primers are made out of water, similarly to cleaners. The water acts as a solvent for active ingredients and also gives the primer a liquid consistency, which is easy to work with for the stylist. Primers also consist of PVP - or polyvinylpyrrolidone - which is a bonding agent that covers the eyelashes and reacts with the eyelash adhesive. Finally, primers feature small amounts of ethanol, which dissolves the PVP.
Are primers necessary?
While technically not necessary to complete an eyelash extension treatment, a good quality primer allows the effects of the procedure to stay visible much longer. The effects of the treatment will also look much more satisfactory to the client if the stylist uses a primer. A primer allows the artificial eyelashes to get a better grip on the natural ones, bonding together with the adhesive. This allows the adhesive to work much more efficiently and speeds up the process of polymerization, in which the molecules bond to form a network of polymers. With a primer, the results of an eyelash extension treatment can last up to 10 weeks, depending on the natural life cycle of your client’s eyelashes.
How important is the primer?
An eyelash primer is a necessary element in every professional eyelash salon, and it should always be applied whenever you will be using an eyelash adhesive. Primers require only a small amount of the liquid to improve and strengthen the extensions, making them very money-efficient to use. Before you use a primer, always thoroughly clean and dry the eyelashes to make sure that no dust, epidermis or sebum are present, as they could have an impact on the final look of the extensions. They can also weaken the bond between the adhesive and the lashes. Eyelash primers consist of polyvinylpyrrolidone, or PVP for short. PVP connects the eyelash extensions and natural eyelashes, creating an almost indestructible bond which can hold for weeks to come.

How to properly prepare the eyelashes before a treatment?
The preparation of the eyelashes is one of the most important parts of the treatment. Both the quality of the treatment and the longevity of the effects will be highly dependent on the preparation. Even if your clients have washed their eyelashes before coming to your salon, you should use a professional cleaner to properly remove any residues of sebum, epidermis, and dust. Most of what needs to be cleaned up is not visible to the naked eye, so don’t skip the cleaning part just because the eyelashes look to be in good shape. Before you use the cleaner, however, make sure you use a makeup remover to get rid of any makeup your client may have on their face.
How to utilize a primer?
After your client’s face has been cleaned of makeup and their eyelashes have been prepared for the treatment with a cleaner, you can proceed to apply the primer. Remember that in order for the polymerisation effect to take place, the environment you work in must be humid enough. To control the humidity of your workplace, we recommend getting a handy weather station which tells you both the humidity and the temperature around it. Many cosmetic products apart from primers require very specific conditions to work properly, including eyelash adhesives.
What do I need to be a better stylist?
One of the easiest and most important steps to becoming a better stylist is supplying your salon with professional cosmetics and supplies. Using premium extensions along with high-quality cleaners, removers, and primers, provides the most satisfactory results. However, using good quality products is not everything - you still need skill and experience. Every substance and product you are going to use in your salon needs to be used in a very specific way, and without that knowledge - you won’t be able to make your clients happy. One of the easiest ways of gaining experience is to train. However, you should never train on your clients - instead, here at Noble Lashes, we offer training kits which feature special eyelash extensions used for training, along with mannequins to work on.
