My name is Marianna. For several years I’ve been working in professional eyelash extensions and thickening . Sounds silly? Maybe – especially to men. In their “manly” world, it’s just pointless, unnecessary, vain – a waste of time and money. They don’t even notice it. They love us ‘natural’… Ladies, they’ll never understand.


I love my clients – and the feeling is mutual. Why? As a woman, I truly understand the daily struggle with morning makeup. It doesn’t matter whether I’m just going out for bread, walking the dog, or heading on a longer trip. Almost all of us need to “do something” with ourselves – a full-on glam or just a subtle enhancement – but usually something… I ask each new client, why did you decide to try eyelash extensions ? It’s almost a rhetorical question. I usually hear, "because I hate putting on mascara.” And it doesn’t matter if it’s just for a weekend getaway, vacation, a few parties, big events – or simply for everyday convenience.

False Eyelashes – Say Goodbye to Mascara

Seems like nothing, right? Just grab a mascara and swipe a few times over your natural lashes. But we women know very well that for the result to be actually noticeable, it’s neither easy nor quick. And men know it too – the ones we block from the bathroom for ages before every outing, driving them crazy in the process. Lucky are those whose women don’t wear makeup every day, who get up much earlier than their partners, or who have bathrooms big enough for two. The rest? They’re left blooming in the hallway. And it doesn’t matter what kind of mascara we bought: cheap or expensive, black or brown, waterproof or not. Whether the brush is thick, thin, long, short, silicone, classic, straight or curved. Even the most convincing ads for the latest “miracle” mascara won’t save us from clumpy, sticky lashes and smudged eyelids.

Lash Extension Treatment – Time to Chat

The lash extension treatment takes on average 1.5 to 3 hours, so I’ve got plenty of time to chat with my client. Sometimes I burst out laughing at what they’ve tried just to make their lashes beautiful, insanely long, dark, and curled. I’ve had my own “hacks”, but some of their ideas go way beyond even my – and I think quite vivid – imagination. And we laugh… because with me, you can laugh. You can talk, joke… I’ll listen and understand – unlike their men. They won’t understand… they’ll mock, scoff – because to them, it’s “just lashes.” For us, it’s “lashes” – with a capital L – and a passport to feeling good. So we keep applying our mascara. Nearly every day we fight this uneven battle, because unfortunately, most of us weren’t blessed by nature with a fan of thick, long, beautiful lashes.

 

Mascara – A Daily, Uneven Battle

We begin slowly, carefully, lash by lash, sometimes using just the tip of the brush, other times the full length. In a zigzag motion, gently near the skin, but without touching it, from the outer to the inner corner, we try hard to evenly distribute the black goop… layer after layer. Occasionally, we dip the brush in again for a fresh coat. But how? I’m sure you, too, instinctively quickly pump the wand in and out of the tube several times – mistake. We should be removing the wand from the tube in one smooth motion. That pumping motion is completely wrong and honestly, no one knows why we do it, but we all do. All it does is push air into the tube and make the mascara dry out faster. How many times have we been furious that a brand-new, expensive mascara dried out so quickly… what a rip-off!

Fifteen minutes of struggle go by and “to finish it off”, we give them one last swipe – just at the tips, hoping it will somehow add a few more millimeters. The result? Usually the same – meh or none. Despite later attempts to separate lashes with a needle, a fingernail, or a toothpick, they still stick together. Often there's an unflattering excess of mascara, weighing the lashes down, making them heavier and straighter – even though many of us curled them first with an eyelash curler. The inner corners are barely touched, because it's hard to reach them with precision. And even though for several minutes – waiting for five layers to dry – we walk around with eyes wide open staring into a mirror, we end up with half our face smudged, because the mascara transferred to our temples, or if not then, it will during the day due to squinting, heat, sweat, or accidentally rubbing an eye – turning us into endangered panda bears. What a frustration, after all that effort, all the good intentions and care – and worst of all, we know that tomorrow we’ll have to do it all over again…

So why did I decide to get eyelash extensions and thickening? So I’d never have to use mascara again? So that every single day, all day long, no matter the place, time, or season, I could enjoy beautiful, breathtaking lashes I’ve always dreamed of? So my eyes would always be defined and my gaze captivating?

No. So my man wouldn’t have to beg for the bathroom every morning… ;)
