Is a lash lift or extensions better?
You may be torn between getting a lash extension or a lash lift, trying to ascertain the differences to know which is better. Both are different in process and maintenance; however, the results are in sync, and it is difficult to tell which is better since both can perfectly serve vice versa depending on the situation on ground. First, we will talk about the difference in maintenance and procedure involved in carrying out both treatment processes.
Here we will give you all the required information you need so that you will make the best decision on which lash treatment perfectly fits your specifications. The first thing you need to know is that both treatment processes vary a lot although their results may seem identical.
The difference in the procedures.
Lash extensions involve adding substances (synthetic fibers of a silk or mink finish – no animal products here) to enhance your natural lashes and make them give the impression that they are longer with more curls than what they are. In essence, even if you naturally have very attractive, smooth, super sparse, short little lashes, we have products that can make them look amazingly longer. Although the goal is to avoid overloading them, we have some artificial techniques with the use of volume lashes, different curls, and styling to improve your lashes to look better and even more attractive.
On the other hand, lash lifts depend mainly on the natural lashes. With the implementation of a chemical process their shapes will be altered, and then infused with ‘keratin’, to make them look more lifted with a curly impression.
The outcome of this process is almost entirely reliant on the look and feel of your natural lashes. However, several processes and chemicals have been invented to enhance the results expected from this method of eyelash treatment.
For example, it can be mixed up with a tint for additional darkening impact which is recommended on many occasions unless your lashes are naturally jet black. Even clients with natural dark lashes usually observe the last couple of millimetres to be naturally paler, so an additional tint will go a long way to give them an illusion of longer lashes (similarly with the lash extension process).
The differences in the effects of each treatment process.
If your lashes are long and remarkably full, a lash lift generally will give you more amazing results than an extension. On the contrary, if your lashes are shorter, smoother, or finer in the sense that they are not as full as you would prefer, a lash extension is the better option for you as it cures for the scantiness of your lashes.
Lash lifting results in lashes that will be more curled, and darker if you perform additional tinting, but if your natural lashes are not so full, it is preferable to perform a lash extension since the chemical substances used in lash lifting cannot make your lashes look fuller, rather the curl them upwards.
Hence, if the effect of treatment is being considered, lash extensions are usually a lot darker than lash lifts for those that want these features. In addition, special effects like staggered/Kim k, doll eye, cat eye etc can be performed afterwards. While lash lifts are more actionable for clients that don’t want to tamper with their natural lashes and are conveniently limited in that they can only perform styling on their natural lashes. You can basically curl them upwards and make them darker by adding a tint effect.
The lift basically involves curling them upwards to wrap around a rod; whilst we can customize the angle of curl. This customization is usually done depending on the length of your natural lashes.
The difference in terms of maintenance.
Where it has to do with maintenance, lash lifts are a lot easier as they normally last a bit longer than lash extensions do. On average you can expect a lash lift to look good for around five to six weeks, while extensions will only last for about three weeks before new infills will be required. Also, you don’t need to take so much care with makeup and oily things when carrying lifted lashes as compared to lash extensions.
Lifts may take longer to set properly after application of the substances, but it is more preferred for less delicate clients since it requires little or no special care to carry around while performing normal activities daily.
For both, you can apply whatever substance you want – oily makeup remover, sticky pot eyeliner, mascara etc – and take it off with vigour. However specifically with lash extensions, you need to reduce application of oily makeup or remover, anything very sticky such as a gel pot eyeliner to reduce wear. Furthermore, if you have volume lashes on, applying mascara frequently may not be a good idea at all.
