Eyelash extensions for hooded eyes
Eyelash extensions for hooded eyes can be a real challenge for a lash stylist, especially at the beginning of their career. Read on and discover proven ways to choose the right lash style for each type of hooded eyelid.
In this article you will learn:
How can eyelash extensions help?
Eyelash extensions are designed not only to lengthen and thicken natural lashes. Sometimes their role is much greater — they can help conceal certain imperfections of the eye area.
- Eye asymmetry
- Gaps in the lash line
- Short and thin lashes
- Hooded eyelids

What is a hooded eyelid?
We talk about a hooded eyelid when the skin fold located under the brow bone overlaps the mobile part of the eyelid when the eye is open. This condition is called ptosis. Depending on the cause and severity, ptosis may be only a cosmetic concern, or a more serious issue requiring medical intervention.
Why does the eyelid droop?
The eyelid often begins to droop over time, as collagen production decreases and the skin loses firmness. However, ptosis is not always age-related.
- Congenital ptosis – there is a muscle in the eyelid that, due to improper development, cannot lift the eyelid sufficiently.
- Mechanical injuries – after a strong blow around the eye, the levator muscles responsible for lifting the upper eyelid may weaken.
- Contact lenses – prolonged use of corrective lenses may contribute to the development of ptosis.
- Nerve injuries or muscle diseases.
- Surgical procedures – some surgeries performed near the eyes can lead to drooping eyelids.
Hooded eyelid and eyelash extensions
Properly selected and applied lash styling can help hide a hooded eyelid and visually open the eye. How to match the lash style to this type of eyelid?
Styling for a hooded eyelid in the outer corner
This type of hooded eyelid naturally suggests a solution — a lash style that lifts the outer corner and elongates the eye. The Cat Eye, FoxyEye or Squirrel Effect work perfectly in this case.

How to create the styling?
- Avoid excessively long lashes – they may touch the brows and feel uncomfortable to wear.
- Mix curls – use a gentler curl such as C in the center of the eye and transition towards CC or even L in the outer corner.
“Mongolian fold” – how to adjust the lash effect
A hooded fold running across the entire eyelid slightly covers the inner corner of the eye. This eyelid shape gives a slanted eye appearance.
The eye has a beautiful almond shape, but some clients may wish to soften and visually round it. For this type of hooded eyelid, lash styles that visually open the eye, such as the Doll Eye Effect, work best. If the client prefers to emphasize rather than change the eye shape, while still concealing the hooded eyelid, the Squirrel Effect is a great choice.
- Be sure to try combining curls B, C, and L.

Hooded eyelid and outer corner
When both the eyelid and the outer corner are hooded, the best approach is to combine techniques and tailor them to the client’s eye shape. The Doll Eye Effect helps conceal the fold, while the Eyeliner Effect lifts the outer corner.
