What is the 1:1 eyelash extension method?
The 1:1 eyelash extension treatment is currently one of the most popular lash treatments. It involves attaching synthetic lashes to natural ones. As a result, lashes appear fuller and healthier.
Lashes extended with the 1:1 method guarantee a mysterious and captivating look that’s hard to resist. The treatment must be performed with precision. Synthetic lashes are glued to natural ones in a 1:1 ratio – hence the name.
The effects of this method include:
- Increased lash density,
- Lengthening,
- Darkening,
- Visually elongated outer corners of the eyes,
Synthetic lashes are chosen to match natural ones as closely as possible. This is an individual matter, so each client should be treated personally. After selecting and matching the lashes, they are glued to the natural lashes.
What does the lash extension procedure look like step by step?
The eyelash extension procedure is relatively simple. How does it work? First, the beautician protects the lower lashes using special tape and/or eye pads to prevent them from sticking to the upper ones. Then, one synthetic lash is glued to each natural lash. The treatment ends with brushing the lashes and removing the protective tape from the lower lashes – but what exactly does it look like step by step?
-
Step 1. Apply under-eye protection. When placing protective eye pads, avoid positioning them too close to the eye. They should be placed under the lower lashes, about 3–4 millimeters from the lash line.
-
Step 2. Choose the extensions. Always use at least three different lengths of synthetic lashes ranging from 6 mm to 14 mm. Sets with 8 mm lashes can also be used to avoid an unnatural look.
-
Step 3. Pick-up. Spread the lashes on a pad to allow for quick pick-up. The synthetic lash should be placed at a 90° angle to the straight tweezers for fast and accurate application.
-
Step 4. Dip. Dip the lash in glue – make sure there's enough adhesive on its base. Remove any excess before applying.
-
Step 5. Isolate and slide. Use straight (or sometimes curved) tweezers to isolate natural lashes. While holding the extension, glide it along the natural lash line. Apply glue from 0.5 to 1 mm away from the eyelid.
-
Step 6. Positioning. The lashes should be pointed upward and aligned parallel to the others with no glue clumps. Do not touch them right after placing.
-
Step 7. Separation. No synthetic or natural lashes should be stuck together. Use tweezers to separate any lashes from each other. If needed, grab and separate them horizontally – this is best done when the glue is dry but not fully cured. Never pull vertically or put tension on natural lashes. Repeat until the desired effect is achieved.
- Step 8. Drying. Once all natural lashes have their synthetic counterparts, it’s time to dry the newly applied extensions – do this for a few minutes. Mist with distilled water (or use a nano mister), dry again for about three minutes, and perform a final separation to ensure a flawless result.
Remember to avoid using products that contain oils. Such products should never be used with synthetic lashes!
Does the 1:1 lash extension method damage natural lashes? Is it safe?
It’s difficult to give a definitive answer. It all depends on you and whether you choose a good salon and a qualified specialist, or if you entrust your lashes to someone inexperienced.
It is generally believed that lash extensions done using the 1:1 method do not negatively impact natural lashes. Of course, this is assuming that the procedure is done by a professional – an experienced person with the proper skills, who has been performing this type of treatment for a long time and has a solid reputation.
The materials used for the extensions also play a key role. There’s no room for substitutes or lower-quality products here. For the best condition of your lashes, there’s no space for unprofessional behavior – only choose reputable and well-known salons!
Remember, a poorly performed treatment can seriously damage your lashes!
How often should eyelash extensions be refilled? What’s the cost?
Synthetic lashes need to be refilled regularly. They are prone to shedding, and to maintain the desired effect, it’s best to refill them no less than every 4 weeks.
Regular refills are crucial after getting eyelash extensions using the 1:1 method. The cost of refill treatments is approximately 200 PLN.
How to care for lashes applied using the 1:1 method?
Lashes extended using the 1:1 method don’t require special treatment. They are very easy to maintain.
Lashes attached with the 1:1 method can simply be washed with water during your usual face-washing routine. It’s also a good idea to use a lash foam cleanser. A big advantage of the 1:1 lashes is that, due to their strong, long, and dark appearance, there’s no need to use mascara.
What are the opinions about the 1:1 eyelash extension method?
These treatments are extremely popular. If there are negative opinions, they’re usually a result of trusting an inexperienced beautician.
Everywhere you look, 1:1 lash extensions are referred to as the most natural-looking cosmetic lash treatment available. So there’s no need to worry about your lashes looking fake. What do women who regularly get this treatment praise the most?
- Long-lasting, spectacular results,

How much does the 1:1 lash styling cost and how long does it take?
